This summer, residents across Gloucestershire are being invited to get out, get moving, and explore the beauty of their local area with The Big Summer Stroll & Roll – a new, inclusive campaign from Active Gloucestershire and we can move.

Launching on Monday 7 July 2025, the campaign encourages people of all ages and abilities to enjoy walking, wheeling, and rolling across Gloucestershire’s towns, parks, countryside, and everything in between. Whether you’re walking the dog, pushing a pram, using a wheelchair, or simply exploring your neighbourhood, The Big Summer Stroll & Roll is for you.

The campaign runs throughout the school summer holidays and is packed with ideas to help you get started, stay safe, and have fun. You’ll discover:

  • Accessible walking and wheeling routes in your local area
  • Tips on what to wear and take with you
  • Guidance on using public rights of way safely and respectfully
  • Ideas for traveling by foot, bus, train, or cycle
  • Inspiring extras like nature spotting, geocaching, mindfulness and art activities

“This campaign is all about helping people move more in ways that work for them,” says Tom Beasey, CEO at Active Gloucestershire.

“We want everyone in Gloucestershire, no matter their age, ability, or experience, to be able to enjoy the amazing places we have right on our doorstep. Whether you’re walking around town, wheeling through a park, or heading out to the countryside, we want to make it easy, safe, and enjoyable for everyone.”

The campaign includes four themed weeks:

  • Getting Started – Tips, safety, what to wear & pack (from 7 July)
  • Cityscapes & Town Trails – Urban routes near shops, parks & cafés (from 21 July)
  • Hills & Horizons – Rural walks and accessible countryside paths (from 4 August)
  • Stroll & Explore – Add-ons like birdwatching, mindfulness & art (from 18 August)

All routes will include useful information like accessibility details, parking, nearby facilities, and transport options. You can view routes on the campaign webpage.
