School Games

The Gloucestershire School Games

The Gloucestershire School Games is the largest school sport event to be held in Gloucestershire each year. It is part of the national School Games initiative which aims to inspire more young people to take part in school sport. Our goal is to use the games not just to promote sport but to engage pupils so they have a longstanding relationship with sport and physical activity.

The games consist of four levels:

  • Level 1 - Intra-School competition
  • Level 2 - Local or district competition (organised by district School Games Organisers)
  • Level 3 - County finals (organised by Active Gloucestershire)
  • Level 4 - National Competitions (organised by Youth Sport Trust)

For further information please see Your School Games website.

During 2017/18 an estimated 18,000 young people from over 85 percent of schools across the county took part in the Games. The Games provide opportunities for young people to get involved in a number of different roles - as an athlete, a school games maker or as part of our cultural programme.
