The Youth Sports Trust (YST) works in partnership with schools and other relevant bodies to implement and manage a variety of initiatives. These are designed to build a brighter future for young people through sport. The YST plays a central role in supporting the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) in delivering the national strategy for PE, School Sport and Club Links (PESSCL).
The overall aim of PESSCL is to enhance the take-up of sporting oppo
rtunities by 5 - 16 year olds. Specialist Sports Colleges position PE and sport at the centre of the curriculum using sport as a vehicle to develop and improve learning opportunities for all.
School Sports Partnerships are groups of schools working together to develop PE and sporting opportunities in communities. A typical partnership consists of a partnership development manager (PDM), school sport coordinators (SSCos), and Primary Link Teachers (PLTs) who, together, manage the overall sporting strategy for schools in their area.
