Volunteering in Gloucestershire

Do you want to make a difference in Gloucestershire?

Then you've come to the right place. Active Gloucestershire can provide you with all the information you need to help you turn your interests and passions into action.

triathlon volunteerSports would not survive without volunteers. In the UK there are over 2.7 million people that volunteer their time in Sport. This equates to an estimated total of 1.8 million hours of unpaid support every week of the year, or 54,000 full time jobs! Active Gloucestershire recognises the importance and value of volunteers in sport and are committed to the following programmes:

Step into Sport

Step into Sport is one of the strands of the joint Department for Education and Skills physical education, school sport and club links strategy that focuses on young people aged 14 – 19 years and encourages them to undertake an involvement in Sports leadership and Volunteering. This National programme is supported by Sport England, National Governing Bodies of Sport, Sports Leaders UK, Sports Coach UK and County Sports Partnerships.

The SIS programme seeks to develop and enhance young people’s confidence, communication, organization and self esteem through engagement in Leadership opportunities within the community. It also provides opportunities and experiences that can enhance a young person’s career and job prospect through a nationally recognized accreditation/certified scheme.

2012

The London Olympic Games and Paralympics Games will offer a unique and vibrant experience for athletes and spectators; an experience in large part created by up to 70,000 volunteers from around the UK and across the world.

It's important to remember that the recruitment and selection of volunteers for the 2012 Games will not be organised on a first come, first served basis. Instead, volunteers will be selected for a number of reasons including their individual skills and especially their volunteering experience.

So if you want to get involved in volunteering at the Games, why not start volunteering now in your community and boost your chances of selection. Click here to register yourself as a volunteer within Gloucestershire or visit the London 2012 website for more information of becoming a volunteer for 2012!

A link will be placed here to the registration form when it becomes available.

do-it.org.uk

do-it.org.uk was launched in 2001 as a National database of volunteering opportunities in the UK. Active Gloucestershire encourages organsiations locally to start using the site as a tool for advertising any volunteering opportunities that they may have within their organisation and also directs any individuals looking to get involved in volunteering to use the site to register their interest as well as search for current volunteer vacancies.

If you would like to register your club on the do-it.org.uk website then local support is on offer to assist you with this and in many cases actually register your clubs info on your behalf! Please contact Elaine Hodgin on elaine@volunteeringcheltenham.org.uk Elaine's role is to promote and encourage people within Gloucestershire to volunteer.
