Getting Your Children Active

‘Your children will become what you are; so be what you want them to be’ (David Bly)

Do your children spend more time inside playing computer games or watching the TV than running around outside? Motivating your children to be active will not only help them to be healthy and happy now but it will also benefit their health in later life.

Children need to be active and there are many reasons why:

  • Lack of physical activity is resulting in the growing rate of obesity amongst children.
  • Physical activity can strengthen your child’s bones now and for the future.
  • Active children are more likely to be active adults.
  • Children need a healthy diet and plenty of water to have the energy to be active.
  • Children enjoy being active – they participate to have fun.

Helping your children to become active can be fun. Participating in activities with them is a great way to spend time together as a family. Some example activities include:

  • Picnics
  • Cycling
  • Swimming
  • Going to the zoo
  • Playing in the park
  • Taking the dog for a walk
  • Hill Boarding

See the Childrens section for more information.

Why not check out the Adults section for others ideas of becoming more physically active.
