Over the last few months several new staff have joined the Active Gloucestershire team so, as we are entering a new and exciting year, we would like to take this opportunity to introduce ourselves and look forward to working with you all in the near future.

John is responsible for the development, implementation and evolution of a strategic framework for sport and physical activity in the county and gaining wide commitment and support for meeting the objectives of the framework from the public, private and voluntary sectors in the county. He is also responsible for leading, managing, directing, controlling, developing and achieving the overall strategic direction of Active Gloucestershire and its policies, resources, operations and development.

Rhiannon's responsibilities include the management of Community Sports Development and Investment relationships with key individuals and agencies and supporting the development of Community Sport and Physical Activity Networks (CSPAN’s). She also identifies potential funding opportunities.

Kelly is responsible for implementing the Marketing and Communications Strategy, including increasing awareness of Active Gloucestershire. She manages the Active Gloucestershire events, website and newsletter and marketing materials. Kelly also manages and updates the Customer Relationship Management system.

Gill is responsible for managing the financial, administrative, and resource needs of Active Gloucestershire. This includes maintaining an effective accounting and HR system and monitoring Active Gloucestershire’s budget, as well as providing regular financial reports and updates for the Board, partner organisations, managers and staff. She also ensures accountability and value for money to partner organisations committing resources to Active Gloucestershire.

Kerry is responsible for the deployment and management of Community Sports Coaches, who are employed by Active Gloucestershire She is also in charge of developing and coordinating coach appraisals, working in conjunction with Sports Coach UK, and relationships with key individuals and agencies.

Jo is responsible for Club and Volunteer Development work locally and provides support and guidance to organisations offering opportunities for participation in sport and physical activity.

Jo is responsible for developing Active Gloucestershire's relationships with National Governing bodies (including securing the preparation and delivery of their local county plans for workforce development, player pathways and talent development and specific facility developments) which is fundamental to development work with sports clubs and volunteers locally.

Other areas of Jo's work involve:

  • implementing the Skills Active UKCC Coach Bursary Scheme.
  • acting as deputy child protection officer.
  • developing the quantity and quality of school-club links.
  • Work with SSP's to develop young volunteer programmes and the SSCo CPD programme.
  • joining the Active Gloucestershire Leadership Team.
  • supervising the sports specific development officers.

Sport and Physical Activity Development Officer for Disabled People

Anne-Dorte is responsible for working in school and community settings to foster the sustained provision of quality, planned and co-ordinated opportunities throughout the county, to enable disabled people and Special Educational Needs (SEN) to participate in physical education sport and physical activities. She is in charge of establishing and supporting a Special Schools PE forum and a ‘Gloucestershire Disability Sports Association’, as well as organising and helping deliver PE, sport and physical activity events including Youth Games. She is also responsible for forging links with partners and organisations in the wider community in order to increase opportunities for young disabled people and SEN to access sport and physical activity opportunities outside of the schools setting. Anne-Dorte also ensures training and development is provided for all partners delivering sport and physical activity for disabled people.

Paul is in charge of developing disability football in Gloucestershire, South Gloucestershire and Bristol and providing opportunities for people with a disability to play, coach, officiate and administer at all levels. He is also in charge of providing a player pathway from grassroots to excellence, including developing a Centre of Excellence for disability football, developing new and supporting existing Ability Counts Clubs, supporting the Regional Ability Counts League, delivering the Gloucestershire Football Association’s (GFA) schools programme and delivering a Schools Competition Structure.

Angie is responsible for Hockey Development within Gloucestershire, including supporting the County Hockey Association in assessing and implementing training of junior teams for boys and girls, working with all the area SSCo’s to incorporate hockey into curriculum and extra curricular times and develop school club links, working with hockey clubs within Gloucestershire to develop junior sections and establish school—club links and organising coach and umpire courses.

Janice is responsible for delivering and implementing the five year netball plan and beyond, including working with clubs to encourage junior participation and club development, working with the county association to develop and deliver initiatives to encourage the development of all aspects of netball, working with all partners across the county to educate, train and deliver a cohesive and sustainable netball programme, accessible to all, liaising with the Regional Manager for Netball, Netball South West and England Netball to ensure structured delivery, developing school club links and organising courses as required.

Alison is responsible for maximising participation in netball across the county, providing avenues for school-club links and promoting the benefits of High 5 netball.

Alison Croad will undertake additional responsibilities for:

  • the supervision of the work and performance of a designated group of community sports coaches;
  • implementing specific projects as directed by the Sports Development Team Leader (Coaching).

Alison will report to the Sports Development Team Leader (Coaching).

Dave is responsible for Sportshall athletic coaching for years 5/6, for multi-skills coaching for reception to year 6, and is head coach of county athletics development squad 13-18 (Target 2012). Dave is also responsible for delivering Elevating Athletics to primary and secondary schools, providing club support where necessary, delivering strength & conditioning sessions in secondary schools and introducing Shine Awards to schools.

Martin is responsible for planning and delivering high quality programmes of festivals and tournaments that encourages disabled people to participate in sport and physical activity. At the local level Martin will be delivering a range of high quality sport and physical activity opportunities in a fun way that is progressive and reflective to the needs of disabled people. Martin will also be able to give advice, training and support to other coaches, helpers, teachers, Adults Other Than Teachers (AOTTS), parents/carers, students and others.

Sarah is responsible for planning and delivering a coordinated programme developing core movement, FUNdamentals and appropriate sports skills in early years, childcare and play settings and for delivering high quality sporting and physical activity opportunities that are progressive and reflective of the needs of children. She also works with partners in children’s centres, community groups, clubs and schools to ensure that a progressive approach is taken to physical, cognitive and emotional development.

Mike also works with early years staff in the development of physical activity provision.

Bas is responsible for tennis coaching and development in the Forest of Dean, working in primary and secondary school settings (currently introducing Tennis Leaders Awards in the Forest of Dean), ensuring that tennis has a high profile in the area as a sport that can be played by everyone and all year round and improving the basic ABCs, confidence and enjoyment.
