Apply Now!! For projects running between April 2012 and March 2013.

The Sportivate programme is part of the Play strand of Sport England’s London 2012 mass participation legacy programme Places, People, Play.

It is a nationwide campaign that will capture the excitement of sport, providing opportunities for teenagers and young adults (aged 14-25) to receive no less than 6 weeks (and a maximum of 8 weeks) of coaching in a sport of their choice and encourage them into regular participation.

Sportivate is now open for Year 2 projects that will be delivery between April 2012 – March 2013.

Deadlines for applications for Year 2

Criteria (April 2012 – March 2013)

  • All activities must take place during out of school / college hours and evenings or weekends.
  • Targeted young people must be aged 14 – 25 years (with a focus on 16 – 25)
  • Young people should come from the ‘semi sporty’ / non regular category (currently completing 1 – 2 hours of sport per week). You will see from the table below that the semi sporty group is widely defined to include anyone who does sport at a frequency between once a month and 2 days per week. By this definition about a third of the total population in the relevant age group is defined as semi-sporty.

  • All planned activity must be a result of consultation with young people and based on evidence of need, as an example this evidence can be demonstrated through results of a survey with the target group.
  • All planned activity must be partnered with a minimum of one community club / group and show a clear exist route.
  • All activities must run for a minimum of 6 – 8 consecutive sessions (lasting a minimum of one hour). 6 - 8 sessions is classed as one block of activity.
  • Activities can run all year round, and be replicated more than once. Each block must engage with a new group of young people.
  • One application can be submitted for more than one block as long as the project is delivered in the same format.
  • All delivers must provide a placement opportunity for a Sport Maker and / or nominate a volunteer for the Sport Makers programme.
  • Applicants can apply for a maximum of £50 per head from the Sportivate programme. Match funding (in kind and / or cash) is strongly encouraged to support applications.
  • All exit routes must have achieved (where applicable) or be working towards either their NGB Clubmark or Active Gloucestershire Club Standards, with an achievement deadline.
  • Delivery partners working with Under 18’s must meet the safeguarding checklist;
    • The delivery organisation must hold a Child Protection and Vulnerable Adults policy.
    • All coaches delivering the project must hold a recent (within the last 3 years) enhanced CRB check
    • All coaches and staff who come into contact with participants who are under 18 must have attended the sport coach UK ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop or a NGB equivalent.
  • In addition to this delivery partners will have to agree and provide evidence of insurance, coaching certificates and first aid certificates. The evidence shall be submitted with the Supply of Services. For more information please click here.
  • Schools, colleges and universities can submit Sportivate projects but these must be open to the wider community. The project must be delivered by a community provider and an exit route must be supplied. Projects must also show the demand for the programme by the community.
  • Where there is a definite demand, programmes can run Multi sports sessions but links must be made to either a multi sports club and / or individual activities. Multi skills programmes are not eligible.

  • Schools, Colleges and Higher Education Institutions to deliver their own projects, a community provider must be brought in to deliver.
Delivery in Gloucestershire
  • Applicants will be notified of receipt of their application within 1 week of receiving.
  • All applications will be assessed by Active Gloucestershire against the criteria produced by Sport England and will be notified if they are successful or not within 6 weeks.
  • Successful applicants will have to adhere to a Supply of Services Agreement with Active Gloucestershire to ensure the project is run within the parameters of the funding. Programmes shall not start delivery without a signed Supply of Services Agreement by Active Gloucestershire.
  • All successful applicants will have to complete monitoring and evaluation on an on line portal, training and support will be provided.

Applicants should be aware that if they are successful they will need to supply evidence of a Child Protection Policies, coaches attendance of a Safeguarding and Child Protection Course and CRB numbers (if delivering to Under 18’s), copies of insurance certificates, coaching certificates and first aid certificates.
