Welcome to Active Gloucestershire.

Active Gloucestershire is an independent charity with a vision for everyone in Gloucestershire to be active everyday.

We have a key responsibility for increasing physical activity levels across Gloucestershire and are an agent of change, uniting individuals and a huge range of national policy makers and organisations around one of the greatest challenges facing our society today: inactivity.

We want to inspire, connect and enable people in Gloucestershire to get active in a way that works for them, and we want to support those who can help others move more, like activity providers, sports clubs and key partners in the county. We do this through we can move – Gloucestershire’s social movement that brings people together from across the sports and physical activity sector, public sector of voluntary and community sector.

We all work together to help people benefit from a more active lifestyle.

We can move

Co-ordinated by Active Gloucestershire, we can move is a social movement designed to get more people active in the county.

  • About us

Being active should be normal and easy. We look at barriers to being active and use campaigns to encourage people to try something new. We ask people to spot things that need to change and highlight their achievements so that they can inspire and be a champion to others.

  • Our impact

Our work develops by learning from what has and hasn’t worked before. We use independent research, and commission our own. We listen to people and organisations in the county. Our aim is to have a real and measurable impact on the lives of people in Gloucestershire.

  • Our team

Let’s talk! We work with many groups and organisations across Gloucestershire, from schools to networks that support older adults. We also do valuable work helping find funding and assist people and organisaations to change where they live, so that more people can be active.

Reflecting on Our Latest Gloucestershire Active Ageing Network✨ Last week’s Gloucestershire’s Active Ageing Network brought together an incredible mix of partners, professionals, and passionate individuals, all united by a shared belief that older people in Gloucestershire deserve every opportunity to live active, healthy, and fulfilling lives. Our network exists to connect the dots across the county to share ideas, spark new partnerships, and shine a light on the brilliant work already happening to support older adults. We know our population is ageing but we also know that not everyone has equal access to the opportunities that help us age well. Factors like where we live, our finances, education, or gender all play a role in shaping how actively and how joyfully we age. Through this network, we’re committed to tackling those inequalities and creating a Gloucestershire where everyone can Live Longer Better. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, contributed, shared, listened, questioned, and inspired. Your passion and collaboration are what make this network so special. Whether you’re an activity provider, part of the NHS, working in local VCSE organisations, or simply someone who cares deeply about improving later‑life wellbeing, we’d love for you to join us at future networks! Let’s keep building a county where older adults are supported, valued, and empowered to stay active for longer💙 🎥Watch the highlights from the day in our reel above!👉 Interested in joining us next time? Happy Social Prescribing Day!💚 Today we’re celebrating the brilliant link workers, community groups and partners who help people move more in ways that boost their health, confidence and connections. We believe that physical activity isn’t just about sport – it’s about feeling good, finding your people, and building healthier, happier communities. ⭐Social prescribing helps make that happen.By connecting residents with welcoming, accessible activities, whether that’s a short walk, a gentle dance session or a local community group, we’re opening the door to movement that truly fits into everyday life. A huge thank you to everyone across Gloucestershire who champions this work. You’re helping people take positive steps, at their pace, in their place💚 #ActiveGloucestershire #WeCanMove #JoinTheMovement #SocialPrescribingDay See MoreSee Less
