Active for Life is an initiative designed to create a culture of active ageing for older adults in Gloucestershire, enabling them to get active, be active and stay active, for life.
The Active for Life project is kindly supported by:
Gloucestershire is currently home to around 127,000 people aged over 65 years old and this number is increasing at a rate well above the national average. By 2032 there will be over 200,000 people aged over 65, living in Gloucestershire, which will amount to over a quarter of the county’s population. The over 65s are by far the least active demographic in the county, with only 20 per cent engaging in regular activity. This means that a staggering 100,000 are not doing enough physical activity! Active for Life is an exciting new programme, influenced by behaviour change and designed collaboratively to raise physical activity levels amongst the over 50s, but with a specific focus on those aged 65 and above. Active for Life adopts a whole system approach to raising physical activity levels across Gloucestershire’s six districts, combining broad activities for the large older adult population with specific, targeted interventions for priority groups.
Active for Life has three main strands:
The Active for Life Ambassadors programme– a volunteering project, which focuses on older people supporting their peers to become physically active within their local community.
Equipment Loan Scheme – a free six week equipment loan scheme and training package, targeting venues where older people come together
