Gloucestershire FA Disability Centre of Excellence completes its most successful season


Gloucestershire Football Association (FA) has run its 3rd Disability Centre of Excellence and with the increase in funding from the FA it has been the most successful so far.


Funding4sport Website is Launched!

Funding 4 Sport has just launched its new website. The Funding 4 Sport website was set up to provide a One Stop shop for Sports Clubs, Local Authorities, Governing Bodies of Sport, University students and all those interested in sport, play and physical activity development.

The site has over 2,000 documents related to sport, play and physical activity that include; templates, forms, toolkits, policies, research, strategies and whole range of support materials that will help you develop your organisation.

New Funding for Young People

Think Big encourages young people, aged 13 to 25, to tackle the issues that most affect them, their friends, their neighbours or their community.

They can offer funding and training and a whole host of support to get projects going and make things happen. The application is easy, and it won’t take very long. If your project is shortlisted they’ll call you up to have a chat, and will let you know within 6 weeks of applying whether or not your application has been successful. Gloucester City Youth Offer Funding 2010/ 11

Gloucestershire Children & Young People’s Commissioning Board has announced the district funding to support the Gloucestershire Youth Offer for 2010 / 11. Funding is at the same level as last year and Gloucester City has been awarded a total of £19,900.

A biding round has been announced and funding is available for organisations looking to deliver positive activities for young people in Gloucester City during the period September 2010 to March 2011.

NHS Gloucestershire Public Health small grants fund.

This fund is to support projects that reduce health inequalities in the Cotswold District. The closing date is 25th June 2010 at 5pm. Click here to download and application form.


Sportsmatch

Sport England’s Sportsmatch programme makes awards to not-for-profit organisations running projects at a community level which meet one or both of Sport England’s objectives of Grow or Sustain. They do this through matching eligible sponsorship pound for pound, up to a maximum value of £100,000.

GolfMark Funding

This year, the English Golf Union (EGU) and English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) are offering funding to golf clubs that have been awarded the GolfMark (Clubmark) accreditation. This Grant gives golf clubs the flexibility and financial support to run sessions and activities for adults and juniors, which will help increase participation and sustain involvement in the game. New sport and crime standards launched

New standards - designed to help tackle crime and anti-social behaviour - have been launched by Skills Active and Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.


Support for arts, heritage and sport as Lottery to be restored to original shares

Legislation that could see arts, heritage and sport each receiving an extra £50 million a year will be placed before Parliament in September.


Gloucestershire County Athlete Assessment day 17th May

As part of the National Playground to podium programme Active Gloucestershire ran the first of two County Athlete Assessment Days (CADD) at Leisure @ Cheltenham on Monday 17th May. 49 pupils attended the first day and were involved in sessions ran by England Table Tennis Association, Boccia England and England Athletics

Coaches from each of the sports were on hand to deliver the sessions and were at the same time searching for potential talented disabled athletes. Simon Laurence equestrian Paralympic medal winner also attended the day and was involved in the inspirational session. Craig Johnson and Tom Dowan who are local GB Boccia players were also available on the day to support the Boccia sessions.

The next CAAD will take place on the 1st of July where Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association and Gloucestershire Football Association will be delivering sessions. For more information on disability sport click here.


World No.1 Junior Whiley Heads Entry for National Wheelchair Tennis Championships

World No. 1 ranked junior Jordanne Whiley and Beijing Paralympian Alex Jewitt will be among the leading names in a field of 50 players for the 2010 National Wheelchair Tennis Championships, which takes place at Oxstalls Indoor Tennis Centre, Gloucester over the Bank Holiday Weekend of Friday 28th May to Monday 31st May.


Be a Volunteer at the British Transplant Games!

The 33rd annual British Transplant Games are being held from 19th – 22nd August 2010 in Bath. The Games are organised by Transplant Sport UK (TSUK), with the aims of demonstrating to the public the benefits of organ transplantation, encourage transplantees to live life to the full with exercise and social interaction, and to promote awareness of the desperate need for more organ donors.

To support the event a strong team of 100 volunteers are needed to ensure the event runs smoothly and efficiently. Volunteers will be asked to do a range of roles, from stewarding and marshalling to helping with the individual sports. Click here for more details on the event and how to get involved.

British Blind Sport Tenpin British Junior Singles League 2010

Anyone under 18 who has an interest in Tenpin bowling is invited to join the British Blind Sport Junior Singles league which will start in June. Click here to download an entry form and click here for rules and regulations.


Family 'Glee' @ The Roses Theatre

On Thursday 3rd June at 10.30am - 1pm Tewkesbury's Roses Theature will be running a fun “Musical Theatre” style dance workshop for all the family inspired by the music from hit US TV show Glee. Parents and children of all ages are invited to get their crew together and start moving! The session will be also be followed by the film Fame (PG) at 2pm.

County Championship Hockey Comes to Gloucestershire

The Gloucestershire Hockey Association will be hosting one of the Qualifying Pools for this seasons Men’s County Championship on behalf of England Hockey.

The event will be held over the weekend of 22 and 23 May 2010 at Newent Community School. The Gloucestershire squad will be drawn from many of the clubs across the county.

The full programme for the weekend is:
