Funding
Sport Unlimited Funding Re-Opened
Organisations, clubs and individuals are welcomed to bid for the remaining £20,000 of Sport Unlimited funding available for projects to be delivered by the 31st March 2011. Applications must be received by Friday 10th September 2010. For more information on the funding and for application forms click here.
Gloucestershire Rural Community Council Bursary opportunity
Gloucestershire Rural Community Council have 25 bursary awards that will support the accreditation application process for local clubs . The bursary is for up to £350 that can be used to subsidise coach qualifications, 1st aid courses, child protection courses etc. Click here for more details on the bursary.
Support for Grassroots Sports Projects (UK)
The Wells Sports Foundation is a unique sporting charity created and funded by Barrie Wells, and they are offering grants of between £500 and £2,000 to sports clubs to support sustainable grassroots projects. Funding is available for clubs that need equipment that is specially focused on increasing participation; CRBs for volunteers; coaching qualifications; refereeing/umpiring courses.
To be eligible to apply for funding projects must support the development of grassroots sport for young people between the ages of 5 and 18; clubs must have achieved Clubmark status, have at least one partnership agreement with a local state school, have raised at least 50% of the required funds for the overall project, and total project costs must not exceed £5,000. The deadline for applications is the 10th of every month. For more information click here.
Funding from Children in Need
This funding stream is available to organisations that work with young people that are suffering from illness, distress, abuse or neglect, are disabled, have behavioural or psychological difficulties and / or are living in poverty or situation of deprivation.
- Projects need to prove that they positively change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.
- Projects where possible should take into account the views of the disadvantaged young people and involve them in decisions that affect them

Child Protection
Active Gloucestershire Achieve Advanced Standard for Child Protection and Safeguarding
Active Gloucestershire's Child Protection and Safeguarding advanced standard has been a vital piece of work that has now been achieved by a group of staff leading on this projects. Ensuring that our safeguarding and quality standards continue to be in line with best practice is the main task of our internal group and achieving the Advanced Standard has given the group a great start. Teresa May, Home Secretary, announced on 15 June that the Vetting and Barring Scheme has been cancelled. The scheme was due to come into force in July 2010, and many voluntary and community organisations had been advised to register their staff, volunteers and supporters.
Disability
Announcing a Major Sporting Event in the South West for Disability Football
The Wheelchair Football Association will be holding an introductory day for Powerchair Football on Saturday 21st August 2010 at the University of the West of England at Bristol.
The purpose of this event is to lay the foundations for new clubs in the region, and to establish the beginnings of a South West League. The sport is played in power (electric) wheelchairs and is intended for physically disabled people, particularly those who cannot access football through other clubs. Men women and children can play in mixed teams, with the stipulation that they can safely control a powerchair. For more information on this event please e-mail Sam Bull on sam.bull@thewfa.org.uk

Talented Chloe has Paralympic Aim
Chloe Ball-Hopkins recently reached the final of the Junior National Tennis Championships and is now ready to take the athletics world by storm. Chloe was identified through Active Gloucestershire's Playground to Podium event that ran recently in Cheltenham. Within a few weeks of the event Chloe had attended a session at Cheltenham and County Harriers. For more details on Chloe's success click here.

Summer Activities
Strolling in Gloucestershire 2010 county-wide Walking Festival 1st - 31st July
After the success of the 2009 Strolling in Gloucestershire Walking Festival the event will run in 2010 over the whole month of July. The walking festival is to be co-ordinated by the Local Authorities in Gloucestershire with an aim to raise the profile of walking around the county. Timetable of Activities for StreetGames Gloucester; Summer Holiday Timetable 2010
Gloucester City Council are running StreetGames over the summer holidays. Multi sports sessions will be happening across Gloucester from 26th July - 27th August 2010. Session are free and times and sites vary. Click here for more information.
Summer Activities with Leisure @
Leisure @ Cheltenham are running summer activities for young peopled aged 3 - 14 years. The sessions will introduce both trampolining and gymnastics activities. Click here for more details.
Lilley Brook Golf Club Tuition for Adults and Juniors
Lilly Brook Golf Club will be running 1 hour sessions on a Wednesday starting on 28th July at 6:30pm - 7:30pm for 6 consecutive weeks for adults. The cost of the course will be £65 per person.
Lilly Brook are also running junior start up sessions starting on Thursday 29th July at 4:30pm - 5:30pm which will be running for 5 consecutive weeks at a cost of £20 per child.

Newlands Park, a part of Cheltenham Rugby Club has been announced as one of 103 UK volunteering groups to win this year’s The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the MBE for volunteer groups.
A number of individuals and organisations are backing 'Share the Smile' - a new UK wide initiative from Blue Gym aimed to encourage more people to discover the benefits of being active around water.
Voluntary and Community Organisations in Gloucestershire can Now be Tracked Using a New Website
The Gloucester Association for Voluntary and Community Action has launched a free web-resource for voluntary and community organisations in the county, the Gloucestershire VCS Marketplace. A spokesman said: "Voluntary and community organisations, residents' groups and small charities often find it hard to advertise their events, promote their services and communicate with each other. Cirencester Kingshill School to be Visited by London 2010 Mascot
One of the London 2012 Mascots will be visiting Cirencester Kingshill School on Monday 5th July 2010. The school entered a competition to win a visit from the mascot and their winning competition entry was based on their school's festival of Indian sport (part of their 2012 International Inspirations work).
Sport England and the Government
Plans to reform sport and deliver a lasting legacy from the Olympic and Paralympic Games were set out by Hugh Robertson, Minister for Sport and the Olympics.

Apperley Quarter Marathon
