The parkrun takes place on a 5km course, with inner and outer laps. It’s definitely something to do for fun and you’re running against the clock, not other people! It’s free to join, and organised by volunteers, so helpers are always welcome. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate are available at the finish, so you can stay and chat to fellow runners.

The first official run took place on 24th April 2010. Runs start at 9am and all runners will need to register with parkrun but once registered you can join in any parkrun in the country.

For more information or to volunteer as a helper, phone Dave Lucas on 07796 646703 or e-mail forestdave@btinternet.com

Cheltenham Civil Service RFC Look to Expand

As Cheltenham Civil Service RFC draw a close on their 2009/10 season thoughts have been turning not to a summer off, but to recruitment!

After a successful few seasons Cheltenham Civil Service RFC has announced plans to establish both a ladies section and a 4th XV men’s team for the 2010/11 season.

Club chairperson, Alan Lochhead, has explained that “Civil Service has all the necessary ingredients for people to enjoy rugby regardless of their ability. The facilities are great, the club’s extremely welcoming and we have a team for any ability of player. We feel that the only missing elements are a ladies section and a few more men to make the 4th XV viable every week.”

Despite the plans only just being announced over twenty ladies have already signed up to the new ladies section, but coaches Paul Williams and Pete Lodge are keen to recruit more players, irrespective of their rugby experience or ability. This level of ambition is also reflected in the clubs search for a new coach for the men’s section. Civil Service believe that with only a further six to seven players needed to make the 4th XV a reality, and 25 – 30 players training week in, week out it will only take the appointment of the right coach to help realise the clubs goals. Therefore, anyone that is interested in the coaching role at Cheltenham Civil Service RFC should contact the club at rugby@cacssa.co.uk. Likewise, anyone interested in playing rugby is welcome to attend the pre-season training sessions before making a decision, the details of which can be found on the club website: www.pitchero.com/clubs/cheltenhamcivilservice/.
