Bookkeeping Essentials

This four hour interactive course provides a thorough introduction into the bookkeeping requirements when running a small business or club, designed to ensure you meet HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) requirements and to provide you with the essential financial information you need to run your business/club.

CLUB GOVERNANCE

This two hour interactive workshop provides an essential guide to the legal requirements of running a sports club for those on a club committee, including answers to the following common queries:

  • What legal form should the club take?
  • How can the club protect members from financial liability?
  • What responsibilities do committee members have?
  • What benefits does CASC or Charitable status offer?
  • What types of insurance should the club have in place and when?
  • What 'reasonable care' obligations does the club have in terms of insurance cover?

This workshop helps to explain the new tax breaks available through Community Amateur Sports Clubs status. You can learn how to go about paying considerably less tax in order to allow you to spend more where it counts - on your club.

Clubs will benefit greatly from having a volunteer coordinator - a single contact who supports their volunteers, knows them all by name and what each of them does.

In this workshop, volunteers will learn exactly what this role entails and how they can become an even greater asset to their club by taking it on.

Developing Parnerships with Clubs and Schools

This workshop aims to develop school and sport organisation partnerships to provide young people with quality opportunities to progress in sports from schools to clubs.

Young people are the future of sports, and it is important that they are able to move from school to an adult environment that is of high quality, attractive to them, and that helps them progress in their chosen sport.

Business Essentials Course

  • LEGAL STATUS - The options available for the legal status of a coaching/club business (Sole Trader, Limited Company, Industrial & Provident Society, CASC, Charity, etc) and the liability and tax implications relating to each.
  • SELF-EMPLOYMENT STATUS - The guidelines that must be met for a sports coach to be accepted as self-employed when working for a client - substitution, control of the programme and financial risk, how to practically satisfy the guidelines (particularly if using hourly paid coaches) and the key wording needed in a robust self-employment contract (supplied to delegates on the course).
  • BOOKKEEPING AND TAX - How best to meet the HMRC requirements and ensure you are prepared for a tax inspection.
  • ALLOWABLE EXPENSES - The types of allowable expenses that can (and can't) be claimed for in sports coaching - travel, use of home, clothing, equipment, etc.
  • INSURANCE - The insurance cover that both coach and client must and should have in place to meet health and safety requirements.

MARKETING ESSENTIALS

This four hour interactive course introduces the concept of successful marketing for sports coaches and clubs - defining and building a brand, developing and implementing an effective and practical marketing plan, how to monitor and evaluate the results, and great examples of good practice.

The course includes advice and guidance on the following:

  • BRANDING What is a brand and how to build one that will professionalise your services and increase your income
  • PLANNING How to put together a business/marketing plan that is simple to use and update, including examples of the key essentials all good sports marketing plans should contain
  • MARKET RESEARCH The key elements you need when researching your brand and competitors with practical ideas and examples
  • FIRST IMPRESSIONS Why first impressions count - appearance, punctuality, facilities, your team - and we review best practice for customer care
  • SOCIAL MEDIA How to use Facebook and Twitter to bring your services into the 21 st century and increase your profile and income

  • What the customer wants and expects
  • Planning and pricing your services

  • Details of real-life examples of successful schemes in sport

What are the essential elements you must put in place to market yourprogramme successfully and develop a unique 'brand'? This section of the course introduces the concept of successful marketing - why appearance/behaviour matters, how to price your sessions and services, and how to develop an effective and cost efficient marketing campaign.
