Coaching also drives better performances and increased success, as well as supporting key social and economic objectives throughout the UK. Coaching will also play a pivotal role in contributing to performances in 2012 and to the people-based legacy after the Games. At all levels of society, coaches guide improvement in technical, tactical, physical, mental and lifestyle skills, as well as personal and social development. Coaches are at the heart of providing exciting and rewarding pathways for many young people and adults in sport, as well as finding the extra edge that will help our athletes get to the top of the world. So it is good news that the further development of coaching and individual coaches in the UK looks set for continued and additional investment in the run up to 2012 with the publication of the new UK Framework for Action. This seeks to build on the earlier UK Vision for Coaching and subsequent recommendations of the Coaching Task Force. The vision of The UK Coaching Framework is to create a cohesive, ethical, inclusive and valued coaching system where: - Skilled coaches support children, players and athletes at all stages of their development in sport and
- which is number one in the world by 2016
It aims to:
- clearly map out the key goals, structures, resources and outcomes for the UK Coaching Framework over three main phases:
- 2006-2008 (one year from now);
- 2009-2012 (five years from now);
- 2013-2016 (nine years from now).
- identify and agree the specific role to be played by sports coach UK as the government-designated support/technical agency for coaching;
- identify and agree the optimal working arrangements between sports coach UK and key partners in government and governing bodies;
- identify and agree the processes and procedures required in order for sports coach UK to provide relevant, cutting-edge services, products and systems that support the coaching process at all levels.
sports coach UK is committed to working with governing bodies, county sports partnerships and all other agencies to ensure that the necessary coaching infrastructure is in place to make this happen at all levels of our system. There are five themes to the Framework: 1. Developing coach and player pathways; 2. Front line coaching; 3. Support for coaches; 4. Professional status; 5. Research and development. The coaching elements of Active Gloucestershire's Strategic Framework were based on the UK Vision for Coaching and feedback from the consultation on our strategy. This has influenced our subsequent work in coaching and we have now met with sports coach UK to identify how best to align our current and planned work with the new framework to ensure that we are able to continue to develop coaching and coaches in Gloucestershire. At the October meeting of our Board a new action plan based on the five themes of the framework will be considered for approval and implementation. Updated 27th September 2007
