An Introduction to Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD)

This theory-based workshop is aimed at coaches. It provides coaches with an understanding of the key concepts of LTAD and what it means to them and their practice. This workshop enables coaches to identify and recognise the reasons for adopting LTAD, identify and recognise the concepts and key principles of LTAD, recognise and respond to the implication for coaches and coaching, and identify appropriate action to integrate LTAD into their coaching.

An Introduction to the FUNdamentals of Movement

This practical workshop explores the concepts of agility, balance, co-ordination and speed. It compliments other coach-education resources, which may focus on the movement skills of running, hopping, skipping, etc. This workshop assists coaches to observe, analyse and coach good movement patterns within their sessions whether multi skill or sport specific.

Safeguarding and Protecting Children (formerly Good Practice and Child Protection)

This is aimed at individuals with some coaching experience.

Protect yourself, the young people you are coaching as well as your employer by understanding and following good coaching practice. Learn about child abuse and how to handle situations where you may have concerns. This workshop will help you as a coach to:

  • identify good coaching practice to promote a positive environment and relationship with children
  • identify sport situations and coaching practice that might constitute either poor practice or possible abuse
  • identify ways of dealing with your own feelings about child abuse and state what constitutes neglect, physical, sexual and emotional abuse
  • recognise the signs and symptoms of abuse and appreciate why reporting it is often so difficult
  • identify appropriate action is a child discloses he/she has been abused
  • identify appropriate action if abuse is suspected and explain the role and responsibilities of other experts (eg police, social services)
  • describe appropriate practice that reduces the likelihood of abuse occurring.

Everyone should have access to sport.

Regardless of age, gender, race, ability, faith or sexual orientation, everyone should have access to sport and, as a coach, you have an important role to play ensuring this happens. This workshop will help you apply and extend your existing skills to meet the needs of present and potential participants.

Learn more about how injuries occur and how to prevent them.

This workshop will enable you to find out the best way to deal with sports injuries when they happen and how to help performers return to training quickly but safely. It will also give you knowledge of the best ways of prevent injuries from happening.

An Introduction to Core Stability Training

Raise your awareness of core stability.

This interactive workshop will raise your awareness of the importance of core stability, which is vital to optimising sports performance, playing longevity and reducing the risk of injury. The emphasis is on outlining how basic postural and core stability assessments can help raise awareness of potential problems relating to power generation from the hip and efficiency from each muscular effort.

Increase your awareness of eating and drinking for sport.

Enhance your knowledge to advise performers on diet, promote health and ensure adequate intake for optimum performance. Raise your own awareness of issues surrounding eating and drinking for sport.

A Guide to Mentoring Sports Coaches

Mentoring is a powerful tool in the education and development of sports coaches at all levels.

The workshop will help you as a mentor to support coaches' learning and focus on how learning occurs. This workshop will help you, as a coach to identify your role as a mentor and develop your mentoring profile. It will also help you to increase the effectiveness of your mentoring relationships by developing practical mentoring skills and help you design a mentoring programme that best suits the needs of your sport and the level of coaching in which you are mentoring.

Analysing Your Coaching

Discover methods of analysing your own coaching performance and identify areas of development.

Coaches will be able to develop their coaching eye by gaining a greater understanding of how to observe and select appropriate methods to analyse a player's performance. Coaches will also be able to consider the use of video within their coaching programme.

Coaching Disabled Performers

Develop your coaching knowledge and skills to coach disabled players through inclusive and separate coaching sessions.

Through this course, you will discover new ways to adapt equipment and identify appropriate safety and medical considerations to meet your performers needs. You will also be able to design and monitor a programme for disabled players taking part in sport and direst players towards appropriate competition.

Including Disabled People in your Coaching
In partnership, the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) and Youth Sport Trust have developed a workshop to enable coaches to learn new skills and ideas to allow coaches to provide balanced, inclusive and enjoyable coaching sessions for everyone. This highly practical course is delivered through a number of interactive workshops. Group discussions provide the opportunity to raise issues and discuss the problems that arise when coaching a wide range of pupils with very different abilities and needs.

You will learn new skills and ideas to:

  • provide a positive sports experience
  • increase pupils body awareness
  • offer skill progression
  • help pupils maximise their potential.

This workshop is targeted at coaches looking to develop opportunities for disabled sports players either through governing bodies or clubs.
