Sport Makers - FAQs
What is a Sport Maker? A Sport Maker is anyone aged 16 years or over who wants to make sport happen for people who are aged 16 and over in their local community. What is the aim of the Sport Makers programme? Sport Makers aims to increase 16+ participation in sport and physical activity across the country. What roles could a Sport Maker do? Sport Makers can do various roles including; leading activities, activating and encouraging others to participate, coaching, officiating, committee roles, event management, marketing and coordinator roles. These can be in formal and informal settings. What is the commitment for each Sport Maker? Each Sport Maker must attend a 2 hour inspirational workshop and complete 10 hours of volunteering, and hopefully a lot more! Where can I be a Sport Maker? You can be a Sport Maker anywhere you like. This can be from formal community sport clubs through to your organising activity in your local park for you and your friends. How do I sign up to be a Sport Maker? Visit www.sportmakers.co.uk and create a Sport Maker profile (this takes 5 minutes). What are the benefits to being a Sport Maker? This is a chance for volunteers to get involved in the London 2012 sports legacy at a local level, and a great time to get inspire people to get involved in sport. Upon attending a workshop will receive a t-shirt and a drawstring bag. What will the workshop cover? The workshop will cover the following areas; Leading from within, Olympic and Paralympic values, Having fun and keeping everybody safe, Helping others and a Deployment depot. Is there a cost to being on the programme? No. How do I choose my placement? You can choose a placement that is on the menu of opportunities supplied by Active Gloucestershire, or you can choose / create your own placement. At each workshop you will have the opportunity to speak to an officer about the type of placement you would like. If I coach a junior team would this count? No. Your volunteer placement must be activity for those aged 16 years and over. Do I have to have any prior experience or training? No. Support will be provided through the workshop. Your placement provider will also will be able provide support as needed. What support is available? Support will be provided through the workshops, your placement provider and Active Gloucestershire. Does being a Sport Maker get me London 2012 Tickets? No, but upon completing 10 hours of volunteering you will be able to enter into a draw to win some Olympic and Paralympic Tickets. By being a Sport Maker does this mean I can Volunteer at London 2012? No. Sport Makers is about being inspired by London 2012 and volunteering in your local community.
