What we do
We work to engage people in a more active and healthy lifestyle leading to higher levels of fitness and happiness and to sustain and increase participation in sport. This means that we will work with all types of physical recreation, and formal and informal sport to promote a healthy lifestyle. Download the new Active Gloucestershire Booklet here Our Vision Gloucestershire is a physically active and successful sporting county Our Mission Active Gloucestershire will be a legally robust, financially sustainable, technically competent, well-governed and fit-for-purpose organisation that enables more individuals and communities within the county to start, stay and succeed in sport and physical activity, thereby accessing and achieving sporting, health, educational, social, community and economic benefits. Objectives - To drive up participation levels in sport and physical activity in Gloucestershire by at least 1% per annum, by encouraging the provision of a range of sport and physical activities and facilities to suit all ages and needs
- To widen representation of Gloucestershire residents (senior and junior) at national and international level (whether in the roles of participant, coach, official or administrator) by improving and supporting appropriate development pathways.
- To bring together a wide range of partners from the public, private and not-for-profit sectors to create and support a more active and successful sporting county through improved provision of and access to facilities and opportunities, better health and well-being and stronger, safer communities.
- To establish a robust, evidence-based approach to policy development and performance measurement.
Our Role By working with other organisations we can enable individuals and communities to start, stay and succeed in physical activity and sport. How? Physical Education, School Sport and Club Links We support work that raises the standards of physical education and sport in pre-school, school and college settings and that helps young people to move into clubs and community groups. Activity for Health We support work that helps to improve the health of the community and specifically identified target groups, through education and the provision of local opportunities for both informal and prescribed physical activity. Community Activities and Facilities We support work that increases participation in physical activity and sport through capacity building, investment in and local access to appropriate facilities and programmes, particularly for identified groups and communities. Sports Development and Facilities We support work that enhances sports opportunities in the community through facility investment, and developing and supporting teachers, clubs, coaches, officials and volunteers. We also support the provision of sport-specific pathways for increasing participation and identifying and developing talent.
